When I open my Bible, I'm not just reading history or poetry or moral teaching. I'm reading prophecy — God's way of showing us that He alone knows the end from the beginning.
Listen to what the Lord says through Isaiah:
"Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done." — Isaiah 46:9-10, NKJV
That verse stops me every time. God declares the end from the beginning. No human can do that. No false god can do that. Only the Lord — the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — can speak something into existence centuries before it happens and then bring it to pass exactly as He said.
Why Prophecy Matters
I've spent most of the last 40 years studying Scripture, and I can tell you this with absolute certainty: prophecy is God's signature on His Word. It's how He proves that the Bible didn't come from human imagination. It came from Him.
Think about it. If I told you something would happen next week and it happened exactly as I said, you'd be impressed. But if I told you something would happen 500 years from now — with specific names, places, and details — and it all came true exactly as I described it, you'd know I had access to knowledge beyond this world.
That's what God does throughout Scripture. He names kings before they're born. He describes events centuries in advance. He maps out the entire life, death, and resurrection of Jesus with such precision that no one can honestly say it was coincidence.
The Test God Gives Us
God doesn't ask us to take His Word on blind faith. He gives us evidence. He gives us prophecy so we can examine it, test it, and see for ourselves that He is who He says He is.
In Deuteronomy 18:21-22, God sets the standard:
"And if you say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?' — when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken."
God stakes His entire reputation on prophecy. If even one prophecy failed, we'd have reason to doubt. But not one has failed. Not one.
Jesus — The Fulfillment
When I read the Old Testament now, I see Jesus on every page. The feasts, the sacrifices, the prophecies — they all point to Him. Isaiah 53 describes His suffering. Psalm 22 describes His crucifixion. Micah 5:2 tells us He'll be born in Bethlehem. Daniel 9 gives us the timeline of His coming.
These aren't vague predictions. They're specific, detailed, and undeniable when you lay them side by side with the Gospels.
Jesus Himself said in John 5:39:
"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me."
The whole Bible testifies of Him. And prophecy is the proof.
What This Means for Us
If God knows the future, then He knows your future. He knows what you're facing tomorrow. He knows what you're worried about right now. And if He's proven Himself faithful to fulfill every prophecy in His Word, then we can trust Him to fulfill every promise He's made to us.
That's not wishful thinking. That's evidence-based faith.
I encourage you today to open your Bible and look at prophecy — not as something mysterious or confusing, but as God's gift to you. He's saying, "I know what's coming. I'm in control. You can trust Me."
And if we develop faith in the Word of God, the Word of God will lead us to Jesus.
