When I think about the tabernacle in the wilderness, my mind goes straight to the gold, the fine linens, the precise measurements God gave Moses on the mountain. It's magnificent. Holy. Set apart.
But there's something else in those chapters of Exodus that stops me every time.
Before God ever told Moses how to build the tabernacle, He told him what to bring: "Tell the children of Israel to bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering" (Exodus 25:2, NKJV).
The materials are stunning — gold, silver, bronze, fine linen, ram skins dyed red. But here's what strikes me: where did the Israelites get all this? They were former slaves, wandering in a desert. They had nothing.
Except they did. God had already provided everything they needed before they left Egypt. The Egyptians, under God's hand, loaded them down with gold and silver and fine clothing. The very people who had enslaved them funded the construction of God's dwelling place among His people.
God prepared the provision before they even knew they would need it.
I've walked with the Lord long enough to see this pattern repeat. Not with gold and silver, usually, but with strength I didn't know I had. With people who showed up at exactly the right moment. With scripture that met me right where I stood, even when I didn't know I was looking for it.
The tabernacle wasn't just a tent in the desert. It was a picture of something deeper — God dwelling with His people. And centuries later, John wrote: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:14, NKJV). That word "dwelt" — it literally means "tabernacled." Jesus pitched His tent right here with us.
He didn't wait for us to clean up our mess or figure out our lives. He came into the middle of it. And just like He provided everything the Israelites needed to build the tabernacle before they ever asked, He provided everything we need in Jesus before we knew we were lost.
If you're walking through something hard right now, I want you to know: God has already prepared what you need. It may not look like you expect. It may come from places that make no sense. But He is faithful. He goes before you, and He dwells with you.
