Have you ever felt invisible? Like your struggles don't matter to anyone — not even God?
I want to take you back to Genesis 16, to a woman named Hagar. She was Sarah's servant, caught in a mess she didn't create. When family tension exploded, she did what many of us do when life gets unbearable — she ran.
The wilderness was hot, dangerous, and lonely. She had no plan, no provisions, just pain. And that's where God met her.
"Then the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness" (Genesis 16:7, NKJV). Not in the temple. Not when she had her life together. Right there in her crisis, God showed up.
Here's what moves me every time I read this passage: God didn't just appear. He spoke her name. He asked about her pain. He made promises about her future. And Hagar responded with words that have echoed through centuries: "You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees" (Genesis 16:13).
Think about that. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — the Creator of heaven and earth — He sees *you*. Not the version of you that has it all figured out. Not the you that shows up on Sunday mornings with everything polished. The real you. The one sitting in your own wilderness right now, wondering if anyone notices or cares.
When I study these Old Testament encounters, I see something beautiful. They're not just history lessons. They're windows — glimpses of the character of God that would be fully revealed in Jesus Christ. The God who saw Hagar in the wilderness is the same God who stopped for the woman at the well, who called Zacchaeus by name from a tree, who noticed the widow's small offering when everyone else ignored her.
Jesus didn't come for people who had their lives together. He came for the lost, the broken, the ones running from pain they couldn't carry anymore. He's still that God today.
Maybe you're in your own wilderness right now. Maybe you ran there, or maybe life pushed you. Either way, you're not invisible. God sees exactly where you are. He knows your name. And He hasn't left you alone.
Take a moment today and tell Him what Hagar couldn't say out loud to anyone else — the real weight you're carrying. He's listening. He sees. And He has promises for your future you can't imagine yet.
