I've been thinking about what it means to have courage. Real courage. The kind that doesn't come from being unafraid, but from being more afraid of dishonoring God than anything else this world can throw at you.
That takes me to the book of Daniel.
You know the story. Three young Hebrew men — Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego — were dragged far from home, given new names, put through pagan training, and pressured to forget who they were. But they didn't forget whose they were.
When King Nebuchadnezzar built that golden image and commanded everyone to bow down and worship it, these three young men had a choice to make. Everybody else hit their knees. The music played. The crowd complied.
But not them.
**"If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up."** (Daniel 3:17-18, NKJV)
Did you catch that? "But if not."
Their faith wasn't in the outcome. It was in God Himself. They believed He could save them. But even if He chose not to, they would not bow.
That's faith, friend. Not demanding that God do things our way. Not bargaining with Him. Simply trusting that He is good, He is God, and nothing — not even a furnace heated seven times hotter — can separate us from His purposes.
The king was furious. He had them bound and thrown into the flames. The fire was so intense it killed the soldiers who tossed them in.
But then Nebuchadnezzar saw something that stopped him cold: **"Look! I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."** (Daniel 3:25)
They weren't alone. Jesus was with them in the fire.
And here's what I want you to hear today: He's with you too.
Maybe you're facing pressure right now to compromise. To go along. To bow down to something you know dishonors God — whether it's a lie at work, a lifestyle that contradicts Scripture, or just staying silent when you should speak up.
The world will always have a furnace ready for those who won't bow.
But God has never lost a child to the flames.
You stand firm. You trust Him with the outcome. And you remember: even if the fire comes, you will not walk through it alone.
The same God who stood with three Hebrew boys in Babylon will stand with you today.
Don't bow.
Daniel 3:17-18, 25 — NKJV
